More Collage Fodder Ideas

Doodle flowers look hard but they are very simple to create.

Whenever I post a doodle flower on instagram it generates a lot of interest and questions. Do you paint first or doodle first? Ah, the age old question. I have posted a process video on my Youtube channel. You can watch it below to see what comes first.

Doodle Flowers can be cut out and used as embellishments in art journal pages, on cards or in scrapbooks. I created these flowers as collage fodder. I keep a bunch of them on hand, so they can be added to any project.

How to create leaves.

To paint my leaves I used water colour paint (any brand will work) I blend my colours to create a harmonious colour grouping.

I used computer printer paper as my base.

First step: roughly paint a flower shape using a combination of thin and thicker brush stokes. Add in a small amount of a second colour to the wet paint and let it bloom within your shape to create a mottled pattern. Let it dry.

Second step: doodle around your petal shapes using a black Uni-ball Vision pen. Doodle twice!

Third step: Fussy cut out your flowers leaving a white border.

Because they are painted on copy paper the flowers are thinner and layer nicely on projects. I use matt medium to adhere them to my projects. I use my finger to gently pat around the edges of the flowers so that I don’t activate the water colour. The paint will move if you get it too wet.

I added the flowers to my art journal using matte medium.
