Feeling Fern-y

Snapseed 3.jpg

Last week I wrote about finding my mojo in my garden. I was completely inspired by my ferns: the vibrant colour, intricate shapes and forest smell. I knew I needed to try painting ferns. I started off painting a very literal fern and then I ended up creating whimsical blocks of leafy foliage. Lots of little blocks. I filmed the process to show you how you can reproduce these colourful little paintings too. They make great art cards!

In the video I am painting with Ocean Paper Watercolours from https://theoceanpaper.com - they are made in Kauai. Ocean Paper make soft, muted, natural watercolour paints that are very on trend right now.

I also have two examples of fern cards made with brighter paints. You can make any brand of watercolour paints glittery by adding some additives. I have used Iridescent medium by Holbein and Brea Reese Liquid Glitter to turn my water-colours shiny.

Check out my process video posted below (and on YouTube!). If you learned something new give us a thumbs-up and don’t forget to subscribe to EngelBelle's’ Youtube channel.
