Autumn Inspired Oxide Ink Cards

A fall day doesn’t go by where I don’t marvel at the saturated landscape. I’m always snapping pictures on my walks and getting inspired by the new combinations of texture and colours suspended above me and scattered on the ground. I know I’m not the only crafter out there that thinks of their oxide ink collection while standing in awe of nature.

I often put my pictures in Adobe Captivate to create new and sometimes unexpected colour combination. I thought I’d share a couple combinations with you to inspire your inner autumn. I also prepared a video to show you how I use a combination of Ranger Distress Oxide Inks and Distress Embossing glazes to create more textured and dimensional leaves.

This “just be” card was inspired by the Sea Buckthorn photo above. The process video is below. I’ve listed the oxide inks on the photo above too. Supplies used: Ranger Ink- Distress Oxide Ink, Distress glaze and liquid pearls; Elizabeth Crafts Design Soft Finish Card stock, letter dies and stamps; Sizzix dies; Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Bazzill Colour cardstock; Engelbelle hand-dyed ribbon (available in my shop).

For the “hello” card I’ve listed the oxide inks that I used on the photo above. Supplies used: Ranger Ink- Distress Oxide Ink, Distress glaze and liquid pearls; Elizabeth Crafts Design Soft Finish Card stock, letter dies and stamps; Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Bazzill Colour cardstock; Engelbelle hand-dyed ribbon (available in my shop). I used a maple leaf punch from Creative Memories but it is unfortunately not available anymore. They are always bringing in new punches and have the greatest leaves. The little gold balls are made using Art C Texture pebbles. I paint them with Ranger Ink, Tim Holtz Alloy and alcohol inks.

Process for Just Be card.

Using the Sea Buckthorn photo as inspiration I created these cards using Ranger Distress Oxide inks: spiced marmalade, fired brick, peeled paint, crackling campfire, old paper, black soot, brushed corduroy and forest moss.

Cut two, 4x6 pieces of Elizabeth Crafts Design Soft Finish card stock. On one piece of card stock I blended the Distress Oxide Inks replicating the placement of the colours in my photo. On the second piece of card stock I used the smooshing technique to apply the Distress Oxide Inks to the paper. I randomly splatter layers of  watered down Distress Oxide Inks on the card bases.

I stamp layers of Elizabeth Crafts Design stamps and embossed one layer using the Distress Embossing Glaze in Antique Linen embossing glaze.

I cover my second piece of card stock with embossing ink and then layer three different colours of Distress Embossing Glaze on top. I do this three times so I get a thick layer of glaze. I used Antique Linen, Fossilized Amber and Crackling Campfire on the first layer and them just Antique Linen glaze on the next two layers.

I use Sizzix dies to cut out branches from the glazed card stock. I cut out my sentiment using Elizabeth Crafts design letter dies.

I ink the edges of my die cut elements using  a Pitt pen. To add dimension to the leaves I scrunch them up to create cracks and then I rub gently with a Pitt pen so the ink goes into the cracks.

I add a ribbon made from engelbelle.com hand-dyed ribbon. To add dimension to my leaves I put a foam square from scrapbook adhesives by 3L under the leaves.

I hope you are inspired to try an autumn colour palette with your oxide inks. If you use one tag me on Instagram with @engelbelle.
